We can hear it now, Lady Gaga’s fashionista mantra, and vocal refrain: “I wanna be me!” Actually, few really want to be L.G.. And, frankly, who could pull together a ditto L.G. look from your closet, or frig? No, yet most all the brides sing this soulful refrain, I wanna be me! when choosing the myriad of items, particularly the invitation for their wedding day.
Nicola Formichetti, the infamous fashion stylist-guru for L. G.’s extreme outfits including her outrageous outfit straight from the meat locker, previously seen in this blog, today, steps from the backdrop from a celebrity Muse to the runway as he becomes the new creative director of French label Thierry Mungler at the Milan Menswear show.
Lady Gaga gets it; Nicola gets it; the brides today get it: I wanna be me! And, listen up, the key Wedding Invitation Houses get it and give it all they can give, and served up in new and recently introduced wedding invitation albums. Some albums are just hitting the stationery stores across the nation, others on the shelves for a longer time, still others, timeless and need little redux. Before we proceed to the line-up of the stationery power brokers, I think it is fitting to listen, and of course, sing along with Mr. Sammy Davis, Jr. in his rendition of, I wanna be me!
Before making your wedding invitation and save the date appointment at a stationery store, sit down and develop a budget and accurate guest count. Everyone has a budget, including L.G., and I have listed the Wedding Invitation Houses in price-influenced groups. This is not an exact science, but a guideline as you peruse the albums. Print the list and carry it with you. A in-depth resource for wedding invitations whos who, in my book, The Write Stuff: A Modern Guide to Stationery & Weddings, available on Amazon.com.
Whats new in the stationery stores? The current raves go to William Arthur for the show-stopper Vera Wang collection; as well as a just off the press new album update of their Volume I wedding album. Applause for Checkerboard for its recently revealed Unveiled, album. Wedding ensembles of all the pieces a bride might need, which are visually fascinating and very functional.
Encore Studios album, The Encore Edge, is many a brides and wedding consultants dream with thick, hand crafted beveled edges. In the I wanna be me dictum, shimmer papers, in a galaxy of colors, play a starring role this and every season. Checkerboard, likewise, offers a shimmer color chart of colors to match your bridal hues. William Arthur shimmers, too.
Crane & Co. Say no more! The Crane Bride is legendary. This is the couture House of the Traditional invitation! It also offers a wide range of traditional and contemporary designs that meet everyones high expectations. Its Martha Stewart, Kate Spade and Chloe albums fill the wish list of a great many brides. Think of letterpress! This fashionable statement continues to be big again this year. Other trends: Personalization, yes, yes. New Crane & Co. Wedding Book One coming to the stores next month to join a bevy of other bridal album beauties.
Lallie! Say no more! When it comes to I wanna be me! this is it. Stunning, New. Versatile. Deserves a look on anyones list. With a treasure trove of offerings in several albums, you have the world of wedding invitations at your fingertips, and your creative beckoning.
Budget-minded, or paying for the invitations yourself, and basically, no trust fund on the horizon? Then, be creative with the above albums, and see if you cant avoid items that add to the cost: hand-work, thicker papers, and multi-color inks. Also, I recommend albums from Carlson Craft and Embossed Graphic. The papers, designs are very good, and as is the processing. P. S. Check out Carlson Crafts accessories from garters to monogrammed towel wraps. Marcela, Jan Servajean, Simple Elegance and Beverly Clark all are sources for wedding accessories.

On a final muscial note regarding Lady Gaga. Elton John in a recent article in Rolling Stone magazine said, Lady Gaga is a massive talent. Elton chose L.G.s Bad Romance, as one of his all time top 10 favorite songs.
