The new year brings new opportunities for change and that includes style. So we talked to some local observers and asked them to reflect on what they see being served next on our fashion plates.

Ryan Hurley and Nadira Hurley

Owners of vert & vogue boutique, Durham

Q: What style trends do you think we’ll see develop in the Triangle in 2012?

A: Beyond matters of style and color, we’ve noticed a broader trend – people are yearning for a deeper connection to what they wear. This hunger is palpable at v&v when we tell folks that 50 percent of our collection is made in the USA by independent designers (compared to 3 percent, the industry average). This fact immediately enlivens them.

Regarding trends in color and style, fashion has a seen-on-the-street quality to it today. A quality of mixing genres, eras and colors the way ordinary people do each day when they open up their wardrobe.

When describing your style persona its perfectly fine to mix things up. You should never feel that you have to box yourself into one fashion persona exactly as it is defined. After all, these fashion personas are just approximations of our own making. And since style preferences will vary a lot from person to person, you should expect to describe yours using more than one. It could be several, or just two.

To avoid confusion I should be specific about what I mean by fashion personas and style persona. Fashion personas are the ones that weve given names, like bohemian hippy, trendy fashionista or modern classic. Your style persona, on the other hand, describes your own personal style. It is probably a mix of many components, some of which you might describe as fashion personas.

I narrow my own preferences into three main categories, which have been pretty consistent since the 80s. F

Philips recently released The Sonicare DiamondClean, a £250 toothbrush, but is it worth it? Read on to find out.

The Sonicare DiamondClean is probably one of the most techy toothbrushes I have ever come across, its packed with teeth cleaning features and even looks good.

The bush has a long oblong handle that features a power/mode select button and an illuminated display to indicate which of the brushs five cleaning modes youre currently using, in addition to battery charge levels. The five cleaning modes are designed to target specific areas of your mouth, allowing you to specialize your brushing with settings such as gum care or the whitening mode. Th brush has been clinically proven to remove up to four times more plaque than a manual toothbrush, increase gum health in only two weeks and whiten your teeth in as little as one!

Fergie was a glittering sight as she hosted the New Years Eve bash at 1 OAK at The Mirage Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas! The Black Eyed Peas vocalist showed up at the 1 OAK red carpet in a gold mini dress by Nicolas Jebran.

She literally glittered up for the cameras thanks to her the gold chunks imbedded on her dress! Though the strapless dress had a chunky look, it emphasized Fergies curves really well. So as not to overdo the look, Fergie kept her accessories to a bare minimum. She paired her dress up with silver high heels and gold clutch.

New Years Eve was definitely a fun night for Fergie because she was accompanied by her other half Josh Duhamel. He also looked handsome in a black suit as he joined his wife for some photos on the red carpet.

Fergie chose a great outfit to welcome 2012 in and bid 2011 goodbye! Do you agree?

It may not be Gold, Frankincense, or Myrrh, but a gift to a host or hostess doesn’t have to be lackluster. Give them something they’ll use or treasure long after the holiday revelry is over.

1-3. Rodial’s Life & Style range has three perfect gift sets to give. Pick up the Lounge scented candle set ($50), bathing balm and body soufflé in the Socialite scent ($70), or bathing balm and scented candle in Rehab ($60).

4. Keep it personal by gifting a throw pillow from Rock My Soul with their first initial on it ($50).

5. After teetering in heels or walking around in leather loafers all day, any host/hostess would be glad to kick it in Tommy Hilfiger’s Holiday Wool Slippers ($50) once the guests have left.

6. Guarantee a white Christmas with a Winter Wonderland Snowglobe ($24.50, available at Indigo).

7. Help them t

For many, they’re as reviled as fruitcake. They’ve got entire parties devoted to mocking them.

But this season, fashion editors are saying – with straight faces – that the holiday sweater is having a renaissance.

That’s right. The holiday sweater, in all its reindeer antler, snowflake printed glory, has been spotted on runways and in fashion-forward shops and websites.

Guest PostToday we bring back fabulous forum veteran, Aida, who works in the tech industry. Everett, about an hour outside downtown Seattle, is her home town, so who better to relay the events of this fun day in the North Sound.

After a week of drizzly, gray weather I happily awoke to sunshine early on the morning of the Everett YLF meet-up. This would be my second meet-up, and I felt extra excited because this one was happening close to my own home; a chance for me to share some of my local haunts. As I was pulling up to the restaurant, The Vintage, I spotted a lady in an amazing bustled dress and tall lace-up boots across the street and realized it was Andrea (Random Thoughts). I managed to park while waving and grinning at Andrea (OK I parked first and then waved, don’t worry!).

Once inside Andrea and I chatted away like good old friends, though this was our first time meeting in person, and gleefully sipped on coffee. T

As the world around us becomes increasingly digital, there is something refreshing about keeping somethings ‘analogue.’

I often get teased about the fact that I carry around a calendar and don’t just rely on my iPhone. Don’t get me wrong I love my iPhone, and have found some really useful organization apps, but they just don’t give me the same sense of satisfaction as I get from putting pen to paper .

My old fashioned preferences aside, who said a good calendar can’t be a great accessory? I have been eyeing the latest offerings from Filofax for a while now, and love the Malden organiser.

The Malden, comes in a beautiful glazed buffalo leather finish in a range of colours. In my opinion it is also the perfect accessory to complete the Ivy league trend which has been so popular this fall.

Available in four sizes ranging from £55- £100 you can pick one up here.
